Passion and Piety
Passion and Piety • Acrylic on Canvas
The role of Woman in the history of organized religion is the antithesis of her true power. Her body, her sexuality, and her gift of birthing can not be suppressed or “purified” by standing upon the cross. Her passion can not be contained under veils or disguised under piety.
To reverse the symbol of the Hanged Man is to bring Woman back to Earth.
The conventional Hanged Man encourages non action. The reversed Hanged Man encourages action. The number four is the number that rules one’s ego, implying that the hanged man is suddenly surrendering his own consciousness and will for a much “higher” one.
